Questions
Not at the dinner table
- What does one of one mean?
- There's one. The garment it started as was faded, cut, painted and stitched by hand in a way that can't be repeated. When it sells, its page moves to the archive.
- What is a prototype?
- A design we've made once and photographed but haven't produced as a run yet. The price is set. You can reserve one, and the run only happens once enough people have.
- What happens when I reserve a piece?
- Nothing, financially. We take your email and size, write back to confirm before anything is made, and you can change your mind at any point before that. Once a run is confirmed you get a payment link and a lead time.
- Why are the photos on some pages labelled as mockups?
- Because they are. Prototype pages show a rendered mockup of the design on white until the run is made and photographed. Anything labelled a photograph is the real piece, marks and all.
- How does sizing work?
- One-of-one pieces are one size, as made. If measurements are on the page, lay something you already love on the floor and compare. If they aren't, ask and we'll tape it. Runs come in M, L and XL.
- Are the fading and marks defects?
- No. They're the work. Every fade, fray, paint fleck and stitch is either deliberate or part of where the garment has been, and each page lists what was done to it. Expect the piece in your hands to look like the photographs, not like something new.
- How fast does it ship?
- Within 3 to 5 business days from the studio, US only for now. Made-to-order pieces say so on their page and take the lead time shown. Everything is packed by hand.
- Can I return it?
- Unworn pieces from a run can be exchanged or returned for store credit within 14 days of delivery. One-of-one and made-to-order pieces are final sale; there isn't another to swap it for. If it arrives damaged, tell us within 5 days and we'll put it right.
- How do I look after it?
- Cold wash, inside out, hang to dry. No bleach. Spot clean hats. The fade is permanent. Paint and embroidery soften with wear; that's expected.
- Is Manners connected to Dickies or the other base brands?
- No. Brand names appear only to say what the garment was before we got to it. Manners is independent and not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them.
Anything we missed? Ask. The size guide and shipping and returns cover the rest.
